According to Santa Ana’s Chief of Police and Acting City Manager, Paul Walters, the overall homicide totals from January 1st through December 31 decreased 59% from last year. There were 29 homicides in 2010 and 12 in 2011.

The man who served as Chief Paul Walters training officer when Walters first joined the Santa Ana Police Department has passed away following a prolonged battle with cancer. The Santa Ana Police Department will conduct a DUI/driver license checkpoint from 7:30 p.m., to 1 a.m., tonight through Saturday, near 2000 E. 17th St., according to the O.C. Register.
