In a few weeks the mobile food vending ordinance will be coming back to the Santa Ana City Council for consideration. I want to make it clear that I support mobile food vending! But Produce and Food Trucks in the City of Santa Ana have existing regulations that do not adequately address the challenges of operating food /produce trucks in our city today. Santa Ana must attempt to balance entrepreneurship with the quality of life and preservation of public health and safety for all. On Sept. 18, 2015 a food truck operated by Irvine-based Habit Burger Grill will be offering a $5 meal special to benefit the nonprofit Share Our Strength. The Habit Truck will set up in the visitor parking lot of The Orange County Register from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. serving $5 combo meals that include a charburger with cheese, fries and a drink. Other entree options will include a gluten-free lettuce wrap and veggie burger, according to the O.C. Register.
Habit officials said 100 percent of all funds will go to Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign, a nationwide effort to wipe out childhood hunger in the United States by educating families on how to cook healthy, affordable meals at home. Continue reading
Santa Ana leaders are once against considering options to regulate the catering and produce vending trucks that dot city streets and offer everything from heads of lettuce to tacos and gummy worms, according to the Voice of OC.
Apparently state and federal courts in the past ruled that previous city laws went too far and unfairly restricted the businesses.
Why is the Santa Ana City Council so upset with these food trucks? “City officials say they are prime targets for graffiti, produce a glut of trash and litter, are known to sell cigarettes, and block views at crosswalks and intersections.” Continue reading

(October 16, 2013) – For the second year, the OC Fair & Event Center is turning its regular, weekly Food Truck Fare Wednesday (After Dark) into the Halloween Foodtacular on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 with the regular round-up of gourmet food truck fare, a DJ playing ghoulish grooves, a cash bar with “spirits” for adults 21+ and trick-or-treating truck to truck for kids.
