Santa Ana Police Arrest two Brothers possessing High Powered Assault Rifles, ammunition, and heavy body armor.

Arrested:

Muniz, Esteban 32, from Anaheim
Muniz, Jose 24, from Anaheim

On Tuesday January 31, 2012 Santa Ana Police Gang investigators arrested two brothers suspected of keeping high-powered weaponry and ammunition, including a loaded assault rifle, in their Anaheim home also inhabited by juveniles ranging from ages 10 to16.

Detectives acted on a tip received stating that Esteban Muniz, and Jose Muniz, were in possession of a large amount of weaponry and ammunition. Detectives from the Gang Suppression Unit were able to obtain a search warrant at the brothers’ residence in the 200 block of Chantilly Street in Anaheim.

The Muniz brothers were arrested after Detectives found high-powered weaponry, flak jackets, a baton and ammunition at the home. A variety of weapons, including an AK-47, high-powered rifles, and assault rifles had been found altered to be automatic.

Esteban Muniz and Jose Muniz, who police suspect are gang members, are barred from having firearms because of their criminal history; Esteban Muniz was on nonrevocable parole, while Jose Muniz was prohibited from being around guns due to a domestic-violence conviction.

Three juveniles ages 10 to 16 were also at the home, where police say at least one of the assault rifles was left loaded and easy to access.
