Santa Ana, CA – In a decisive vindication, an independent investigation has fully cleared Mayor Valerie Amezcua of all allegations stemming from a legal claim made by the former city manager. The city attorney announced today at the Santa Ana City Council meeting that the preponderance of evidence did not sustain accusations that Mayor Amezcua had created a pressure campaign or a hostile work environment.

These unsubstantiated allegations had been irresponsibly amplified by certain media outlets in an attempt to discredit the mayor’s leadership. The investigation’s findings confirm what many already knew—these accusations were false, part of a coordinated effort to undermine Amezcua’s historic leadership.

“As the first woman to serve as Mayor of Santa Ana, I have faced an unprecedented level of politically motivated attacks,” said Mayor Amezcua. “Today, the truth has prevailed. I appreciate that our focus can now turn towards more pressing issues facing the people of Santa Ana. Together we will continue the fight for a safer, more prosperous city for all residents.”

This announcement brings an end to a damaging media campaign that sought to distract from Mayor Amezcua’s accomplishments and her tireless work for Santa Ana. As a leader committed to transparency, accountability, and the wellbeing of the community, Mayor Amezcua is ready to continue driving progress on key issues like homelessness, public safety, and economic growth.

However, the investigation also revealed alarming findings regarding Councilmember Johnathan Ryan Hernandez. The report concluded that a preponderance of evidence supported claims that Hernandez had interfered with the work of city staff, creating a hostile work environment.

Mayor Amezcua expressed deep concern over these findings, stating, “I stand in full support of the hardworking employees at City Hall who have been intimidated or mistreated. This behavior has no place in our city, and as a proud union sister, I am committed to ensuring a safe and respectful workplace for our dedicated public servants.”

Mayor Valerie Amezcua, the first woman to lead Santa Ana in its 153-year history, is running for re-election this November. With broad support from community leaders, labor organizations, and residents, she remains focused on delivering results for every corner of Santa Ana.
