Last night, around 8:35 p.m., the Irvine Police Department (IPD) and Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) responded to reports of a single-vehicle traffic collision near the intersection of Barranca Parkway and Vertical.

The initial investigation shows the man was driving a gold Ford Explorer westbound on Barranca Parkway from Alton when he lost control of the vehicle. The Ford collided with the curb and traffic signal pole causing significant intrusion into the vehicle. The vehicle was engulfed in flames after the collision. After OCFA extinguished the fire, the driver was determined to be deceased. The identification of the driver is being withheld pending notification to next of kin.

IPD’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is investigating the cause of this collision. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Joshua Balos at 949-724-7024.
