Armando Edgar Duran Cruz, a 38-year-old Santa Ana man, is facing a six-year sentence for a DUI crash that killed another man and his 6-year-old nephew in Santa Ana, according to the O.C. Register.
California Highway Patrol officers are searching for the driver of a white sedan who they say fled from a traffic collision that killed two people on the 405 Freeway in Santa Ana on Friday, Jan. 5, according to the O.C. Register.
The accident happened in the evening on Friday, at about 8:30 p.m., on the 405, heading north, just north of Harbor Blvd. A sliver Audi was speeding when it made a lane change and crashed into a Dodge Challenger before crashing into the freeway’s center divider, according to the CHP. Drug Impaired Driving a growing problem, but still much to learn
WASHINGTON, D.C. (May 1, 2017) — In response to recent reports regarding an increase in drug impaired driving, Mothers Against Drunk Driving wants to remind the public that drunk driving is still the biggest cause of traffic deaths and injuries in the nation.
The Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA) released an update last week to its 2015 drug impaired driving report. As a result, some media coverage has suggested that drugged driving has overtaken drunk driving in terms of traffic fatalities. Continue reading

The Orange County Coroner’s office has confirmed that Jose Barraza-Soto of Santa Ana, 40, was killed last Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016, when two-vehicles crashed in Lake Forest, near the Foothill Towne Centre, according to the Patch.
A 2016 Hyundai collided with a 1997 Ford F150 truck, which Barraza-Soto was driving, at around 2:20 a.m. at Alton Parkway and Towne Center Drive, according to the O.C. Register. Video of the crash scene is available here. Continue reading
The family and friends of Luis Antonio Torres, the 15-year old Century High School student who was killed last week when a suspected DUI driver crashed into a car he was sitting in, on the shoulder of the 57 Freeway, is raising funds to help pay for his funeral services via GoFundMe.

September Declared “California Pedestrian Safety Month” to Address Pedestrian Safety Crisis
SANTA ANA, Calif. (September 2, 2016) – In answer to rapidly increasing numbers of pedestrians being killed and injured on California roadways, the California State Senate has passed a resolution declaring September as “California Pedestrian Safety Month.” The Orange County Sheriff’s Department will be joining with other law enforcement agencies, city and state transportation agencies, pedestrian advocates and walking clubs to promote public awareness aimed at both drivers and pedestrians alike to always be aware of each other and share the road responsibly.
This first-ever specially designated month draws attention to the 813 pedestrians killed on California roadways in 2015 alone, accounting for nearly 25 percent of all roadways deaths in the state, up from 17 percent just ten years earlier. Continue reading
Person of Interest in Fatal Motorcycle Accident Located
Santa Ana, Ca. (August 18, 2016) – On Wednesday, August 17, 2016, Orange County Sheriff’s Department Traffic Bureau investigators arrested Damon Ellery Block, 41, following an investigation of a fatal traffic collision that occurred on Santiago Canyon Road in Modjeska Canyon.
On August 1, 2016, a fatal vehicle vs. motorcycle accident occurred on Santiago Canyon Road in Modjeska Canyon. The driver of the motorcycle died, and the female passenger on the motorcycle was severely injured. The City of Santa Ana talked tough about cracking down on illegal fireworks but last night was insane. The entire city was a war zone. Even the nicer neighborhoods in north Santa Ana were inundated in mortar rounds.
Ramiro Garcia Jr., a 23-year-old driver from Santa Ana, has been sentenced to four years in prison for a hit-and-run crash in Santa Ana that killed a pedestrian, according to the O.C. Register.
Garcia Jr. pleaded guilty on Monday to one felony count of hit-and-run with serious injury for the fatal Jan. 24 collision, according to court records. Continue reading
An unidentified man in his 40s was hospitalized Monday night after he was struck by a driver while he was illegally crossing a major street, according to the O.C. Register.
The incident happened at around 9:30 p.m.,when a pedestrian walked in front of a vehicle from the left side, as the driver of that vehicle was heading southbound in the 200 block of South Harbor Blvd., according to the SAPD.
The pedestrian appears to have been struck by the vehicle as he was walking across Harbor Blvd., mid-block from west to east outside of any crosswalk. Continue reading

SANTA ANA, Calif. – A woman was arraigned yesterday, May 2, 2016, on charges of submitting a fraudulent insurance claim over $16,000 for a vehicle being driven by a relative in a minor collision. Amezcua Alejandra Rodriguez, 40, Santa Ana, is charged with two felony counts of insurance fraud. If convicted, Rodriguez faces a maximum sentence of six years in state prison. Rodriguez is scheduled for a pre-trial hearing June 17, 2016, at 8:30 a.m. in Department C-55, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana.
On May 29, 2015, Rodriguez’s relative was involved in a minor vehicle collision by hitting a guardrail in Garden Grove. Rodriguez is accused of not being in the vehicle at the time of the collision. Continue reading

SANTA ANA, Calif. – A drunken driver is scheduled to face trial on Monday for murdering a 5-year-old girl and severely injuring the child’s sister and mother by crashing into them in a crosswalk after driving through a red light. Jessicah Louise Cowan, 37, Lake Hughes, is charged with one felony count each of murder, vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence while intoxicated, hit and run with permanent injury or death, hit and run with injury, two felony counts of driving under the influence causing bodily injury, two felony counts of driving with a blood alcohol content of .08% or more causing bodily injury, and an infraction for possession of marijuana while driving. Cowan also faces allegations and sentencing enhancements for causing bodily injury to Eloisa M. and Grisea M., having a blood alcohol content of .20 % or more, fleeing the scene of a vehicular manslaughter, and causing great bodily injury. If convicted, she faces a maximum sentence of 15 years to life in state prison.
