Community: MAYOR PULIDO HONORS SANTA ANA COLLEGE PRESIDENT, DR. ERLINDA MARTINEZ, AS SHE ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT IN JUNE

Mayor Miguel Pulido will recognize Dr. Erlinda Martinez, the president of Santa Ana College (SAC), who recently announced she will retire in June of this year. Her retirement marks the culmination of a career in education spanning over four decades. Dr. Martinez has worked at five community colleges and served as president of Santa Ana College for the last 11 years.

An institution which recently celebrated its centennial birthday, Santa Ana College is the region’s community college of choice, a reliable local partner and leader in four-year transfers, known for its excellence, student advancement and access to affordable academic opportunities.

During Dr. Martinez’s tenure as president of SAC, numerous campus instructional facilities have been constructed, including a 28,000-square-foot Digital Media Center with instructional space for TV/video production, digital media arts, and digital music programs. An 18,200-square-foot Early Childhood Education Center accommodating 178 infants, toddlers, and preschool children, as well as the college’s human development program has also been constructed as well as a new student center and science facility, among many others.

Other notable accomplishment during Dr. Martinez’s presidency include SAC being selected as one of 15 community colleges to participate in a landmark program allowing them to offer bachelor’s degrees. Beginning in fall 2017, the college will offer classes towards a baccalaureate degree in occupational studies. The College was also selected as one of 24 community colleges statewide to participate in the Community Colleges Pathway to Law School initiative providing students a smoother pathway to six of California’s top law schools. In addition, now in its sixth year, Santa Ana College’s Adelante program guarantees that all Santa Ana Unified School District students who graduate from high school, enroll at SAC, and complete all academic requirements and application paperwork, will be admitted as transfer students to CSUF or to UCI.
