Two suspects stole perfume bottles and assaulted store employees in Westminster

Two suspects were involved in a robbery where they took several bottles of perfume and assaulted employees while trying to flee, according to the Westminster Police Department.

The suspects both appear to be African American. One was a woman and the other was a man. Both were dressed in black apparel.

Stealing several bottles of perfume and assaulting store employees in California involves multiple serious charges:

  1. Theft: Given the value of the stolen items, this could be classified as grand theft if the total value exceeds $950. Grand theft can be charged as either a misdemeanor or a felony, with penalties including up to 1 year in county jail for a misdemeanor, or 16 months, 2 years, or 3 years in state prison for a felony1.
  2. Assault: Assaulting store employees can be charged under California Penal Code § 240 (simple assault) or § 242 (battery). Simple assault is a misdemeanor punishable by up to 6 months in jail and/or a fine of up to $1,0002. If the assault involved the use of force or violence, it could be charged as battery, which also carries up to 6 months in jail and/or a fine of up to $1,0003.

If the assault caused serious bodily injury, the charges could be more severe, potentially leading to additional penalties.
