Earlier this month, Tustin Police Dispatchers received a 911 call from a victim who advised his vehicle had been stolen from inside his open garage.

The Tustin police dispatchers worked hard to quickly provide critical details to responding officers and the stolen vehicle was located driving away nearby.

A high-risk traffic stop began, but the suspect refused to exit the vehicle despite being given dozens of opportunities.

Fortunately, Tustin officers train regularly on the use of less-than-lethal options. Utilizing various tools, and their Police K9 Azzurri, the suspect was safely taken into custody after a standoff and the vehicle was returned to the victim.

While Tustin is a beautiful and safe place to live, we hope everyone remains mindful of statewide crime trends and can help us in our mission of public safety by reducing opportunities for the criminally inclined to make you their next victim.

Remember to:

  • Take your keys with you,
  • Lock your vehicles,
  • And secure your garages and homes when you are not present.
