The Garden Grove Police arrested five at Friday night's DUI checkpoint and issued 12 citations

On Friday night the Garden Grove Police Department conducted a DUl checkpoint to help raise awareness and educate drivers on the dangers of driving under the influence.

Over 1,700 vehicles were screened at the checkpoint. There were five DUl arrests, 12 citations and 2 vehicles were impounded.

The cost of a DUI in California can be substantial, including:

  • Fines – The court can impose fines of up to $20,000 for a first DUI, plus penalty assessments that can increase the total cost.
  • Towing and impound fees – If the driver is alone, the vehicle will be towed and impounded at their expense, which can cost between $300 and $1,000
