Jose Manuel Quiroz, a 35-year-old man, was charged on Monday with the fatal shooting of Angel Fregoso, 31-years-old, in Santa Ana in September.

Quiroz is facing a murder charge as well as a sentencing enhancement for the discharge of a firearm causing death.

He pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in the Central Justice Center and is set to appear in court again on Jan. 22 for a pretrial hearing.

On Sunday, September 10, 2023, at 2:50 AM, Santa Ana Police Communications received a report of a shooting victim at the 1400 block of S. Main Street.

Officers responded and located an adult male in a vehicle, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to his upper torso. Orange County Fire Authority arrived and pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.

The victim was identified as Angel Fregoso.

The circumstances surrounding this homicide appear gang-related.
