Patrol Officers arrested Joseph Michael Sanders, a 34-year-old transient with a criminal record, on 4/18/2024 at approximately 6:30 p.m., on charges of kicking a small dog, as seen on a widely publicized video, according to the Anaheim Police Department.

Sanders was booked into the Anaheim PD Detention Facility for a felony arrest warrant stemming from the incident that occurred on 4/7/2024.

Court records show that Sanders has been arrested and convicted repeatedly on charges of burglary, vandalism, receiving stolen property, robbery, and domestic violence.

Sanders pleaded guilty in February 2023 to a felony charge of carrying a loaded unregistered gun in public, and a misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest. He was placed on two years of formal probation and sentenced to 45 days in jail and sentenced to 60 days in jail in June 2023 for violating probation and another 90 days in jail in February 2024 for another probation violation. In a probation violation petition filed in September, officials reported that Sanders had failed to report again.

Detectives are still searching for the dog shown in the video and are asking for the public’s assistance with locating him/her. If you have information regarding the dog’s whereabouts, please contact the Anaheim PD at 714-765-1900 or your local law enforcement agency.

  1. Here’s a classic example of where the system has failed us. A repeat offender repeating his crimes and let out of jail numerous times. People like this need to get life sentences with no parole. Keep them off the streets, or the public may eventually do it for you, especially if this trend continues.

  2. Why are the courts being so soft on these repeat offenders???
Just letting them out of jail to create more havoc does not make sense. The laws need to be changed .

  3. Due to Prop 47, many felonies got downgraded to misdemeanors so these a-holes are let out early to avoid overcrowding. There’s an effort to repeal it which I hope will pass.
