Green Fair to Spotlight Eco-Friendly Products
Student Art to Illustrate “Going Green” Campaign

(Santa Ana, CA)—Community members are invited to attend the first County of Orange Green Fair, a free event that will showcase eco-friendly products and services, to be held Thursday, May 20 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Santa Ana Civic Center, 333 W. Santa Ana Boulevard.

The Fair will feature displays from more than 50 vendors, whose sponsorships make it possible to stage the event at no expense to taxpayers while providing door prizes and other giveaway items to visitors. The County will also be unveiling its Going Green campaign, displaying pieces of art created by local students of all ages that illustrate “What Sustainability Means to Me.”

By raising awareness of what is available and what is possible, the goal is to reduce the County’s impact on the environment without raising costs. Toward this goal, CEO Procurement has developed a user guide for bid specifications and packages that encourage agencies to consider green alternatives when economically feasible.

As an event co-sponsor, OC Waste & Recycling will be kicking off a Business Challenge at the Green Fair to encourage waste reduction within the business community as part of its “10 in 2010 Challenge.” Businesses can find tips and resources on the campaign’s interactive web site, www.WasteFreeOC.com.

Participants will have an opportunity to observe new technology that can assist in the reduction of food waste. A food dehydrator, on display at the event, is able to reduce food waste by 90 percent and is being used through grant funds in several local restaurants, hotels, and golf courses. Representatives from the waste hauling industry will also be available to answer questions about recycling services to commercial business and residential areas.

More information about the event is available at www.ocgreenfair.com. Click here to view the flier.
