Voting Center at Latino Health Access

Concerned Santa Ana residents showed up this afternoon at Latino Health Access in Downtown Santa Ana after reports that a group of men was trying to “help” people to vote at the voting center at that location, at 450 W 4th St.

One of the concerned residents told us that the OCDA had already sent investigators to that location. The investigators said that nothing illegal was going on. Two eye witnesses however said otherwise.

The men had reportedly set up a table less than 30 feet from the vote center. The law says you have to stay 100 feet away from the voting centers if you are engaging in politics.

The men were finally asked to move their table by the voting center staff.

Later a group of men came out of the same office but when they saw one of the concerned residents there they rushed back in. These men were thought to be supporters of Santa Ana City Council Members Johnathan Hernandez and Ben Vasquez.

The men wore shirts that said “No contaban con mi voto,” which means “they were not counting on my vote. This is likely a reference to Santa Ana Measure DD, which asks voters to decide if undocumented immigrants should be able to vote in our local elections.

Perhaps all of this was much ado about nothing but the last thing we need in Santa Ana is shenanigans on the eve of the General Election.
