Police Detectives are conducting a homicide investigation regarding a 43-year-old man who was stabbed and killed in the drive-through of a Pollo Campero restaurant, according to the SAPD.

On Saturday, December 6, 2025, at approximately 4:36 p.m., Santa Ana Police officers responded to the drive-through of Pollo Campero, located at 2320 S. Bristol Street, after receiving a report of a man down and bleeding.

Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim, later identified as Christopher Abrego (43) of Bakersfield, suffering from multiple stab wounds to his body.

Orange County Fire Authority also responded and transported the victim to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

At this time, the motive surrounding the stabbing is under investigation. Homicide Detectives are attempting to identify and locate additional witnesses who can provide information about the homicide.

Here are the potential penalties the suspect could face under California law for murder by stabbing:

  • First-Degree Murder
    • 25 years to life in state prison, or
    • Life without parole if special circumstances apply (e.g., lying in wait, prior murder conviction).
  • Second-Degree Murder
    • 15 years to life in state prison.
  • Sentence Enhancements (possible additions)
    • Use of a deadly weapon: adds 1 year to the sentence.
    • Great bodily injury or special circumstances: can increase penalties significantly.
  • Fines and Restitution
    • Up to $10,000 in fines.
    • Restitution to the victim’s family for funeral and related costs.
  • Other Consequences
    • Lifetime criminal record.
    • Loss of civil rights (e.g., voting, firearm ownership).
