The talk of the town this weekend was a melee that broke out at a mobile home park, in Santa Ana, when police officers showed up, for the second time that night, to follow up on a complaint about noise.

At 8:30 p.m. Saturday, police responded to requests from residents at Caravana Mobile Home Park at 306 S. Sullivan St., after a party became loud, Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said. Police issued a warning to the partygoers and left. They were called back again at 9:15 p.m. when more residents complained, according to the O.C. Register.

Someone at the party shot a video, which shows complete chaos as the police officers appear to go out of their way to damage furniture at the party.  You can see the video above.

I have been told that the Santa Ana Police Department has their own video.  They have yet to fully explain what happened.  They did so however that residents were wrong about the number of SAPD vehicles onsite.  Residents claimed there were 46 vehicles, which seems a bit much.

As one might imagine, there are a lot of damaging reports from the residents who got rousted, including a pregnant lady that apparently got pushed around by the officers.

I think we need to give the SAPD some time to explain themselves.  Clearly the residents failed to obey the police officers the first time they were warned.  It is sad that a birthday party for an 18 year old went south, but you cannot blame the police for that, although I am sure some local blogs will do so.

The real question is why did folks call the cops at 8:30 pm?  That seems a bit early to be calling the police about a party.

Readers at the Register have of course put up a bunch of racist comments.  But one of the parents at the party noted that his sons go to UCI and UCLA.  This was not a gang event.  These folks were just having a good time and things got out of hand when someone in the neighborhood called in the cops.

I am glad no one was seriously hurt.

  1. Art,

As we are all too aware there are two sides to every story. The video being shown on You Tube is not a clear indication of exacty what happened nor are the accounts of those arrested. There is an additional video taken by a witness at the scene that has a better view of actually what happened. That video has been booked into evidence.

I am sure that you will have more to add to this story as you receive the facts. I look forward to reading that.

The men and women of the SAPD do a great job and I hate seeing them portrayed in a negative light. I am sure that once all the facts emerge we will see that they were acting appropriately.

  2. “The men and women of the SAPD do a great job and I hate seeing them portrayed in a negative light”……. so did Mike Carona.

  3. Amen to the police who charges this man in the loud party. Why would people call police at 8:30 P.M. Well, let me tell you why! I live in Riverside and where I live they start to party at 7:00 P.M. music so loud your door and windows rattle enough that you cannot hear your own voice, tv or others speaking in your own home. This is not just once in a while, but every single day and night. My husband and I have lived in our home for 33 years, we have never bothered any of our neighbors. When we ask them to please not have live bands, loud music, porta potties in the front yard, they look at us like we are against them. We have explained over and over that it is against the law to play music that loud or have live bands. Do they listen, NO! So you call the police which take anywhere in Riverside from 2 to 3 hours! We have watched people peeing in our front yard, breaking beer bottle in our yard and so forth. They have no respect for their neighbors and feel entitled to do what they want. It is now a $1500 dollar fine for this, but I doubt anyone has been fined since the same ones are still doing this. I have a right to peace in my own home, play your music for yourself, I don’t care to hear it until 2 or 3 in the morning. The Police have more important things to do, than babysit those who break the law and feel the need to keep the whole neighborhood up all night with their music!

  4. once again pedroza protecting law breakers and ripping the cops who ENFORCE the law doing their jobs .. but then its typical .s.a ..

    1. I did not rip the cops. In fact I stated that we did not know all the facts and sure enough we posted the SAPD response today.

  5. There are always two sides of the story, no doubt. But the chair and table tossing is a clear indication that at least two officers were in a rage. But in the end, the officers action in the will be justified and they will be more CAUTIOUS about hidden cameras. I guess since it was a latino community the cops were’nt thinking camcorders. But if they were in HB, LB, or some other republican city they would think about it twice. Dont get me wrong, I think Santa Ana has good officers but some need to look for another line of work
