Jose Alexis Lopezcanseco, a 20-year-old Anaheim man, appeared in court this Monday regarding a a high-speed crash he was involved in last year in Fountain Valley that ended up killing a 6-year-old little girl.

On Nov. 10, 2023, at approximately 12:15 p.m., Fountain Valley police officers responded to a traffic collision at the intersection of Newhope Street at Heil Ave.

A white Infiniti G37 sedan was traveling southbound on Newhope St. when it collided with a blue Mercedes C300 sedan that was turning left from northbound Newhope St. to westbound Heil Ave.

The impact caused the white sedan to hit the southwest corner street light pole, resulting in the vehicle being split in half.

Tragically the rear passenger of the white sedan, a 6-year-old girl from Anaheim, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Lopezcanseco, the driver of the white sedan, and the Mercedes driver were both transported to UCI Hospital with injuries deemed to be non-life-threatening.

Lopezcanseco is facing felony charges of gross vehicular manslaughter and child abuse and endangerment, and a sentencing enhancement for inflicting great bodily injury on the victim as well as an infraction for speeding in excess of 100 mph.

Lopezcanseco’s arraignment has been rescheduled for Dec. 20 at the West Justice Center in Westminster.

The victim’s name has not been released.
