On Wednesday, November 4, 2020, at approximately 1:39 AM, while conducting routinely scheduled inmate welfare checks, a Santa Ana Correctional Officer located a deceased inmate in his cell. The inmate was alone in his cell.

Jail staff immediately initiated life saving measures and requested medical aid. Orange County Fire Authority paramedics arrived, treated, and transported the man to a local trauma center where the attending physician declared him deceased at 2:15 AM.

Investigators from the Orange County District Attorney’s Office and the Santa Ana Police Department Homicide Section responded to investigate.

The Orange County Coroner’s Division is conducting an independent investigation to determine the manner and cause of the death, which is pending the results of a post mortem examination. The identity of the inmate is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
