Last night, around 10:06 p.m., the Irvine Police Department (IPD) and Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) responded to reports of a traffic collision at the intersection of Culver Drive and Scottsdale Drive.

The initial investigation determined a man was riding his motorcycle northbound on Culver Drive towards Scottsdale Drive. A red Dodge pickup truck was stopped northbound on Culver Drive at Scottsdale Drive for a red light. The motorcycle rear-ended the truck.

The motorcyclist sustained major injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by OCFA. His name is not being released at this time.

The woman driving the truck was contacted at the scene by officers and cooperated with the investigation. Officers determined she was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

IPD’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is investigating the cause of this collision. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Joshua Balos at 949-724-7024.
