Fatal Drive-By Shooting Near Kidworks in Santa Ana

Advisory: DETECTIVES INVESTIGATING HOMICIDE – 500 BLOCK OF SOUTH SHELLEY STREET

Victim: Alonso Ortiz (22) Santa Ana.

On Thursday, August 24, 2017 at approximately 10:01 PM, the Santa Ana Police Department responded to a report of a shooting at the 500 block of South Shelley Street in the city of Santa Ana. Upon arrival, Officers found an adult male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Orange County Fire Authority Paramedics responded. Medics transported the victim to a local trauma center where doctors declared him deceased at 1:37 AM.

Santa Ana Homicide Detectives responded to the scene. The investigation is ongoing. The preliminary investigation revealed a suspect exited a black compact sedan and confronted the lone victim. The suspect shot the victim and fled in the vehicle. The facts of the case indicated the shooting was gang-related.

Editor’s Note – this fatal drive-by shooting occurred near Kidworks, a non-profit organization that employs Santa Ana City Councilman David Benavides.
