On Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at approximately 4:40 PM, the Santa Ana Police Department received calls of a vehicle attempting to run over pedestrians at MacArthur Intermediate School, located at the 600 block of West Alton Avenue.

Officers responded to the area and located the suspect vehicle occupied by a male adult. An officer attempted a traffic stop of the vehicle; however, the suspect did not yield and a vehicle pursuit ensued.

During the pursuit, the suspect drove into a water channel at 3000 South Flower Street, where it overturned. The vehicle caught fire and the male exited and fled from officers.

Officers learned the suspect hid in a drainage tunnel within the water channel where they subsequently took him into custody. Fortunately, no one sustained injuries during the incident.

The suspect’s motive is unknown at this time; however, anyone with information on the case is asked to contact the Santa Ana Police Department at (714) 245-8390.
