Media Advisory: Rededication Ceremony at Thomas A. Edison Elementary School on October 1, 2012

Event: As the District’s third oldest school, Thomas A. Edison Elementary is an integral part of Santa Ana’s history. Built in 1937, Edison has recently undergone major reconstruction to become a 21st century facility that supports Santa Ana Unified School District’s goal of preparing all students to be college and career ready. The SAUSD Board of Education and Superintendent Thelma Meléndez de Santa Ana, Ph.D. will participate in a ribbon cutting ceremony to symbolize the transformation of Edison Elementary.

Construction has been made possible by Measure G, the $200 million general obligation bond, generously passed by the residents of Santa Ana in 2008. By approving this bond, the citizens of Santa Ana have allowed the District to modernize aging schools, remove portable classrooms, build 21st century classrooms, and enhance technology districtwide. Measure G also enabled SAUSD to partner with the State of California, Office of Public School Construction, which contributed $10.7 million for this project. These valued dollars are ensuring that Santa Ana schools are safe, clean, and ready for children to learn.
