Irvine, CA – September 24, 2025 — In a spirited blend of civic action and celebration, local residents and activists will gather this Friday for a birthday-themed protest marking the 37th anniversary of Resolution 88-1 — a voter-approved measure that designated Oak Creek as a Conservation Open Space.

Organized by the grassroots campaign Finding Us All, the event aims to spotlight growing concerns over the rumored closure of the Oak Creek Golf Course by June 2026 and the shuttered Oak Creek Grille.

Protesters are also calling attention to broader issues including traffic congestion, infrastructure strain, and what they describe as “questionable actions” by City Attorney Jeff Melching.

The rally, dubbed the “Oak Creek Birthday Protest”, will take place at the corner of Jeffrey Road and Irvine Center Drive from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Friday, September 26 — the exact date Resolution 88-1 was passed in 1988.

“This is more than a protest — it’s a celebration of community values and a demand for accountability,” said Heidi, Campaign Coordinator for Finding Us All. “We’re standing up for open space, transparency, and promises made to Irvine residents decades ago.”

The Irvine Company, which owns the Oak Creek property, has not publicly confirmed plans to close the golf course, but speculation has fueled community concern. Protesters argue that any such move would violate the spirit — if not the letter — of Resolution 88-1.

The event promises a family-friendly atmosphere, complete with signs, speeches, and a petition drive. Attendees can sign the petition in person or join the movement online at https://linktr.ee/findingusall.
