JOHN WAYNE AIRPORT COMMEMORATES ORANGE COUNTY’S
125TH ANNIVERSARY WITH SPECIAL EXHIBIT “OC 125: EXPLORING ORANGE COUNTY’S STORY”

SANTA ANA, Calif. – Visitors and residents can explore Orange County’s rich 125-year history through OC 125: Exploring Orange County’s Story, a curated exhibition of sites and experiences, now on display at John Wayne Airport. Through February 2015, viewers can take a historical journey through Orange County in the ORANGE COUNTY: Destination Art & Culture exhibition space located in the pre-security pedestrian walkway between Riley Terminals B and C.

Organized by era, the OC 125 display highlights more than 35 historical sites throughout Orange County that are accessible to residents and visitors. The exhibition begins with the earliest explorers and settlers to the region, using images like the one below to depict Orange County’s growth and development over the past century. A companion guide, available at the Riley Terminal and on John Wayne Airport’s website, highlights portions of the exhibition.

“John Wayne Airport is a key entry point for visitors and residents, so it makes perfect sense to commemorate Orange County’s 125th Anniversary with an exhibit that invites people to discover the authentic Orange County,” said Bonnie Brittain Hall, curator of the OC 125 exhibition.

“While it’s impossible to cover the span of Orange County history, the exhibit and companion guide focus on places people can go to experience the historical aspects of Orange County’s story and I’m hoping it sparks people’s appreciation of what makes Orange County unique.”

A fourth generation Californian, Hall is an independent consultant and writer who specializes in cultural and heritage tourism; she is dedicated to bringing the authentic story of place alive for visitors and destinations. For 14 years, Hall served as the founding Executive Director of Arts Orange County and previously served as Associate Art Director for the Laguna Art Museum and Director of Development for South Coast Repertory. Prior to coming to Orange County in 1983, she served as Photo Curator and Exhibits Assistant at the California Historical Society’s Los Angeles History Center.

OC 125 is the official designation of Orange County’s 125th Anniversary. Throughout 2014, the County of Orange is supporting ongoing commemorative events and exhibitions in celebration of its “Quasquicentennial.”
