  1. Admin. – You could just as well titled this article:

“City of Santa Ana taking steps to discourage construction, housing and jobs”

The SA City proposal to mandate affordable housing for residential developers will do just that. There are other options available to the City to accomplish their affordable housing goals.

This City needs to encourage development – not send developers to neighboring cities without this type of “feel good” but economically damaging ordinance.

    1. I am withholding my opinion for now. The City’s PowerPoint links are broken and I have asked their Project Manager to forward me that info.

I do believe that too many of our developments have focused on high end housing. We need more moderate housing to keep our college grads close to home.

  2. APPROVED AS TO FORM:
    Joseph Straka, City Attorney

This statement means the format is correct,

It is not intended to be legal advice and is not an opinion on any legal validity of the ordinance.

The council has a responsibility to step outside the city bubble to check and verify the work of the city to insure honest service for the residents of Santa Ana.

I have read the ordinance and I don’t understand it. There are 2 attorneys on the council, maybe they will understand it. I wouldn’t blame the other 5 in sending this out for a legal opinion, concerting how many Santa Ana ordinances have been stuck down in the past.

  3. I always wonder, how do you make affordable housing?

Right now my condo is about half of what it was 2 years ago.

That means about 50% discount. Is that affordable price?
