On August 27, 2025, at approximately 10:22 p.m., officers responded to the 3500 block of East Chapman Avenue after a traffic collision involving a pedestrian, according to the Orange Police Department.

Witnesses reported the pedestrian was walking south across Chapman Avenue outside of the crosswalk when he was struck by an on-duty Orange County Sheriff’s Deputy driving west in the number two lane.

The Orange Fire Department responded and pronounced the male adult deceased. The deputy was not responding to an emergency call at the time of the collision.

The Orange Police Department Traffic Unit assumed the investigation.

Westbound traffic on Chapman Avenue was closed for approximately six hours while investigators processed the scene.
