A pedestrian was struck and killed while walking on the 55 Freeway early Tuesday morning, while several motorists were injured in a pair of crashes, according to the O.C. Register.

The man was seen walking between the carpool and fast lanes of the northbound 55 Freeway at about 5:40 a.m. CHP officers responded but before they could arrive the man was struck by a Honda Accord.

The man was declared to be dead at the scene. The driver of the vehicle that hit him had to be hospitalized with minor injuries.

The resulting slowdown of vehicles ended up causing another accident that resulted in the hospitalization of at least two more people.

The incident with the pedestrian is being investigated by the CHP as a possible suicide. The name of the victim has been withheld until his family can be notified of his death.
