There was yet another shooting in Santa Ana, early this morning. A male adult shooting victim transported himself to UCI for a gunshot wound to his lower torso on Friday, Feb. 3, at 1:30 a.m., according to SAPD Case #17-3173.
The Santa Ana School Police Department has reported that shots were heard at around 3 pm by Spurgeon Intermediate School and it was placed on lock down temporarily as a precautionary measure.
The School Police and the SAPD responded to the area of 5th and Fairview in reference to the shots that were reported. Continue reading
Spurgeon Intermediate Taking the Lead on Bike Safety for Students
Spurgeon Intermediate School Teacher, Stacy Kline, has put together a Bike Club for her students. The focus of the club is fun with cycling, but it all begins with safe riding skills. To reinforce the importance of safety, Kline offers a bicycle safety session for students.
During the session, students were surprised to learn from Ms. Kline that it is most often the bicyclists who are frequently at fault in collisions, and with some basic training, most bike accidents and the resulting injuries can be prevented. By taking time to learn how to check bikes before riding, practicing starting and stopping safely, adjusting helmets correctly, learning how to brake properly and developing bicycle control skills, kids can really enjoy the freedom that riding a bike provides. The Spurgeon Social Justice Club is hosting a Noche de Justicia” on Thursday, December 18th, from 5-7 pm in the C-Quad at Spurgeon Intermediate School on Fifth and Fairview in Santa Ana, CA. It is a celebration of the Brown vs. Board of Education Decision that desegregated public education in the United States. The event is open to students, parents, SAUSD staff, and community members. There will be music, performances, and food. There is no charge for the event.
It will be a great event filled with Danza Azteca, great music from the Valley Marching Band (including Spurgeon students) and the Spurgeon choir, spoken word from the community, great speakers, and the unveiling of the mural “In Defense of Santa Ana” created by the Spurgeon students who attended the “History of Santa Ana” class this summer at Spurgeon. They will end the evening with a plate of tamales for everyone! Continue reading
