Segerstrom High Football Players Sign National Letters of Intent

SANTA ANA, CA — February 2, 2011 — Today two members of the Segerstrom High School football program, Atlas Smith and Gary Ferman, signed National Letters of Intent to play football at four-year universities. By signing these letters they have been awarded scholarships which include tuition, room, board and books for their college careers.

Atlas Smith, a 6’4, 235 pound tight end/defensive end, has signed with the University of California at Davis. UC Davis is a member of the Big Sky Conference and plays in the Football Championship Division. Smith chose the Aggies over the University of Massachusetts, Delaware, Georgetown, San Jose State and New Mexico State. He was awarded the Golden West League Lineman of the Year and earned All CIF honors for his play during the 2010 football season. He also is a National Football Foundation Scholar Athlete.

Gary Ferman, a 5’10, 215 pound runningback, has signed with Sacramento State University. Sacramento State is also a member of the Big Sky Conference and plays in the Football Championship Division. Gary earned Golden West League Offensive Player of the Year, All CIF and Orange County Register 3rd Team All County for his play during the 2010 football season. He rushed for 1796 yards and 27 touchdowns as a senior this year.

Smith and Ferman are the third and fourth Segerstrom High Football players to earn scholarships in the past four years. To learn more about Segerstrom High School, log on to www.sausd.us/segerstrom.
