Community: Response to President Trump’s Executive Order on Immigration
SANTA ANA – The Santa Ana City Council, who recently adopted an ordinance solidifying into law a resolution declaring the City of Santa Ana a sanctuary for all its residents, has been confronted by President Donald Trump’s Executive Order that targets what he refers to as “sanctuary cities.” The City of Santa Ana respects the Office of the President of the United States, but respectfully disagrees with President Trump’s Executive Order that would take federal funds away from “sanctuary cities.”
“The safety and well-being of our community is our number-one priority. Santa Ana is committed to equality, and will continue to treat all its residents with respect and dignity,” said Mayor Miguel A. Pulido.
The City of Santa Ana receives $123 million total in federal grants, $69 million of which is recurring, primarily for programs related to public safety, community development, workforce investment, youth programing, transportation and highway safety. Santa Ana is actively engaged with “sanctuary cities” to prepare and respond to actions taken at the federal level.
Santa Ana joined numerous cities and other local jurisdictions throughout the United States that have adopted sanctuary policies that demonstrate the City’s commitment to equal, respectful, and dignified treatment of all people, regardless of their immigration status. The City’s ordinance is vital to fostering trust between law enforcement officers and residents, as well as to ensuring that residents feel safe reporting crimes and accessing basic government services.
Mayor Pro Tem Michele Martinez commented, “President Trump’s Executive Order ignores the responsibility of the federal government to enforce immigration law—which is not the responsibility of cities. Since our primary goal is to protect all residents, the City of Santa Ana will not participate in registering, deporting, or banning people based on their country of origin or religion.”
The City of Santa Ana’s resolution and ordinance are available online on the City’s webpage: http://santa-ana.org/.

SORRY BUT UNDER FEDERAL LAW SANCTUARY DOESN’T EXIST. FEDERAL LAW IS THE LAW. ICE N CBP WILL COME INTO SANTA ANA N CLEAN HOUSE BECAUSE YOUR SUPIDITY HAVE JUST MADE ALL THE UNDOCUMENTED LIVES EVEN WORSE.
IT WOULD BE EASIER TO JUST FOLLOW THE LAW, AND PEOPLE WHO ARE UNDOCUMTED CRIMINALS SHOULDNT BE HERE ANYWAYS.
NO WE WILL COME INTO THE CITY N ASK FOR DOCUMENTATIONS… RUN BACKGROUND CHECKS.
Bullshit what they need to do clean up all the homeless which are mostly white and transiants white who are not residents of the city.Law if we all follow laws why did he not pay his taxes.Don’t front there’s no future in your front.Masters of deception and lies.Learn how to spell or go back to school and take english you ignorant bastard
Mayor Pulido and Council should focus their efforts on creating and better and safer community for US citizens and legal residents. They should focus on finding a solution to the recent escalation of crime in our community. Why have a sanctuary city in Santa Ana if Mayor and council members cannot serve the people that elect them? Locura!
That’s because the city council has familia that are illegal. But that wont stop the feds from doing their raids in the cities…….
La MIGRA!!!!
This isn’t news how about report that trumps executive order bears no teeth and Unconstitutional. It won’t win in court.
DUDE! ILLEGAL IS ILLEGAL…..I PRETTY SURE HE DID HIS WK…
WE WILL SEE!
I must admit that our council members’ bold statements make me nervous about Santa Ana’s future economic health. That’s quite a bit to gamble with. It’s our city’s future on the line…
I don’t believe the City of Santa Ana has been in the immigration business. Just in case everyone did not know it usually applies only to the people that get arrested that eventually deal with ICE. Obey all laws and it is business as usual. Council members please stop playing to the crowds. Eight years of liberal politics was more than enough and everyone survived. These next eight years will be called a much needed adjustment period. Hang in there Liberals, its our turn!
It is time for Santa Ana to join the Calexit proposal, lets take some of those millions and invest them in the votes we need to separate ourselves from all the red states. We do not need them, they need us. We are a direct link to latin America and an ocean to the world.
Bill your people have been illegal since 1492
Its hard enough to deal with citizens that are criminals, to go out and protect criminals that should not be in the U.S. anyways. Why not get rid of illegals that have committed felonies and continue to return through the border? The media creates a lot of fear….even if the Federal Govt wanted they could not deport every illegal and they haven’t say that is what they are going to do. There are about 3 million illegal convicted felons here. Get rid of them and make room for the ones we are stuck with due to citizenship, Those 3M are convicted of felonies (not DUI etc), but gang charges, weapons, ADW etc
How many $ us dllrs go to funding tje jail?
You best review your literacy, smart people don’t need curse words to explain their views. Please read the constitution and also excuse my spelling or grammatical errors, I am not obviously an English major.
Better yet live by the law of the land in Peace
If someone doesn’t like the laws of our country they need to leave and find a country that would accept them …. make sure they try going there illegally and see where it lands them
The U S is the most charitable loving country in the world. We are just asking for legal immigration and to remember our country was founded on the love of Christ!!!
To all you who support a sanctuary city. Suck on a Trump weinner…..
