The Irvine police hunt for six suspects in $1500 Target store theft

Six suspects entered the Target store on 3750 Barranca and took approximately $1,550 in merchandise, according to the Irvine Police Department.

The suspects all appear to be African American. At least one of them looks female and the rest appear to be men. It is not uncommon for L.A. gangbangers to come to Orange County to engage in retail theft.

In California, felony retail theft can carry significant penalties:

  • Felony Grand Theft: If the value of the stolen property exceeds $950, it can be charged as grand theft, which is a felony. The penalties for grand theft include:
    • Imprisonment: Up to 3 years in county jail.
    • Fines: Potential fines and restitution to the victim.
  • Organized Retail Theft: Engaging in organized retail theft, such as stealing goods with the intent to sell or exchange them, can also be charged as a felony. The penalties include:
    • Imprisonment: Up to 3 years in jail.
    • Additional Charges: Possessing stolen goods worth more than $950 with the intent to sell can lead to further charges.
    • Probation and Other Consequences: Courts may impose probation, community service, and other rehabilitative measures. Additionally, a felony conviction can have long-term impacts on employment and other aspects of life.
