The Irvine Police is searching for a man who used a selfie stick to look into a young girls bedroom

The Irvine Police Department would like to speak with a man who is suspected of using an expandable pole (selfie stick) and cell phone to peek into a female juvenile’s bedroom.

The suspect’s picture was released by the IPD. He appears to be African American and is tall and slim. He was wearing a black and white running suit with a black shirt and black tennis shoes. He was also wearing sunglasses.

Penalties for being a “Peeping Tom” in California

In California, being a “Peeping Tom” is considered a misdemeanor offense under Penal Code 647(i) and 647(j). Here are the potential penalties:

Peeking While Loitering (PC 647(i)): This involves peeking into a home while loitering on someone else’s private property without a legitimate purpose. A conviction can result in up to 6 months in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.

Invasion of Privacy (PC 647(j)): This includes using devices like telescopes or binoculars to invade someone’s privacy, or secretly photographing or recording someone without their consent. The penalties are similar, with up to 6 months in jail and fines up to $1,000.

Repeat offenses or cases involving minors can lead to more severe consequences.
