The Anaheim Police posted a video on Instagram showing a young woman who appeared to slap her two dogs repeatedly while walking them.
It did not take long for tips to come in. The Anaheim Police were able to identify the woman and they took custody of the two dogs.
The two dogs, who both appear to be small terrier mixes, are now in the custody of OC Animal Care, in Tustin.
Under California law, particularly Penal Code §597, animal cruelty is a criminal offense. If someone is found guilty of maliciously harming an animal, they could face:
- Misdemeanor or felony charges, depending on the severity of the abuse.
- Up to 1 year in county jail for a misdemeanor, or up to 3 years in state prison for a felony.
- Fines up to $20,000.
- Probation, mandatory counseling, and a ban on owning animals in the future.
Since the police have seized the dogs, it’s likely that an investigation is underway, and charges could be pending based on the evidence from the video and witness statements.
In the animal world, discipline is 100% corporal. It looks like this woman was disciplining her dogs. I bet the dogs were completely uninjured and went about their day pissing and pooping on other people’s property. People need to stop ascribing human emotions to dogs. The same people that called this in to the police probably drove right past at minimum one homeless HUMAN BEING passed out in a bus shelter that same day– and didn’t think twice. They’re more concerned about a dog. What a twisted world.
I think you’re confused between training & abusing an animal. What reason would this POS have to isolate the dog on a sidewalk & continuously slap it? Because he did #1 or #2 on his walk? Seems to be the purpose of the walk…regardless maybe you should offer help to whom you choose worthy & let others do what they want to do as well.
For all I know from that blurred video the dog had something dangerous in its mouth and she was trying to get it out. Just look at the dogs sitting happily in the police car after being “rescued”. They’re totally fine.
The police must have seen something in the original video…
