CITY OF SANTA ANA IS SET TO CONSIDER CHANGING WARD BOUNDARIES
SANTA ANA, CA (November 15, 2011) – The City of Santa Ana is proposing to change the City’s Ward boundaries. A public hearing has been set for December 5, 2011, at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Chamber, located at 22 Civic Center Plaza, in which testimony will be received and considered by the City Council.
Santa Ana Charter, Section 101.2 – Requires that Ward boundaries have equal population based on the decennial Federalcensus. The data reviewed was generated by the United States Census Bureau as a result of the 2010 Census. In 1992, the City Council made a similar decision to change the boundaries after Census data was received, which identified significant population changesby Ward. Similarly, the 2010 Census data has identified a shift in boundary population, which triggers the City to consider changing the current Ward boundaries.

The City’s website can be accessed to view the proposed boundary changes, along with the following
information at www.santa-ana.org:

- Map of current and proposed neighborhood association changes by Ward.
The information on the City’s website will serve as a resource to the community during the next several weeks as the Santa Ana City Council considers Ward re-boundary. Through the City’s website, residents may access maps, information, and provide comments for City Council consideration.

Those center wards have had a significant drop in population and need a territory expansion to equalize the cities population between the wards.
As long as voters don’t vote within wards, the whole thing is fake. The only way to empower Santa Ana citizens is to have elections within wards. Currently, all council members get elected based on votes from ward 3 and 6.
We do need Ward specific elections…
It looks like Tom Gordon will be residing in Ward 4 now. Wonder if he’ll be running against David next go around? I hope he can collect enough signatures in his new ward.
Maybe Gordon will run for mayor again…

The only thing ward specific would accomplish is to make recalls easier.
As it stands now, to recall the Mayor or council member, you need to get @11000 plus signatures to force a recall. With ward specific elections the recall threshold drops to 2000 to 3000 depending on councilmember’s ward. No effect on mayor as that office would stay as citywide.
Maybe ward specific is a good idea for me, I was expecting to work 2 elections this year but it did not happen. (The governors tax elections were never held)
But if it was so easy to recall councilmember’s, then that could guarantee me 2 to 3 elections a year just for recalls in Santa Ana. Let the big bucks just roll on in.

In the last meeting he didn’t appear to sane to me.
In any event, he is probably crying to SAPD Chief Walters claiming that I will beat him up as he did in 2006.
