ANAHEIM, Calif. (March 14, 2024) – Anaheim Police Detectives arrest felony animal cruelty suspect, Maynard Allen, and have recovered the dog, a terrier mix, as shown in a widely-shared viral video.

On Saturday, March 9, 2024, Anaheim Police Officers responded to the 1400 block of S. Sunkist St. regarding the report of a man abusing a dog. A portion of the abuse was captured on video, and the disturbing video was shared on social media.

On Sunday, March 10, 2024, Anaheim Police Officers and Orange County Animal Care conducted a follow-up investigation and seized the dog from its owner(s). The dog was taken to a local animal hospital to be evaluated and remains under the care of OC Animal Care.

Over several days, Detectives investigated the case and obtained a felony arrest warrant for Allen for PC 597(a) – Animal Cruelty. On March 13, 2024, Investigators located Allen in the City of Los Angeles and arrested him without incident. Allen was booked into the Anaheim Police Department Detention Facility for the warrant and was ultimately released after posting $100,000 bail.

The dog, in this case, is part of an ongoing investigation and is not available for public adoption.
