On 02/29/2024, at approximately 0200 hours, Tustin Police responded to the 17000 Block of Sherbrook Drive in reference to a possible drive-by shooting that had just occurred. Officers arrived on scene and were able to locate evidence that confirmed the shooting.
Detectives took over the investigation and were able to quickly identify and locate the suspect. Later that morning, the suspect was arrested. The suspect believed to be responsible for the shooting is identified as 46-year-old Jose Alvarez out of El Monte, CA.
Search warrants were served on Alvarez’s vehicle and at his residence. Evidence in the case included two firearms and ammunition that matched the caliber used in the shooting, as well as surveillance that placed him at the scene.
Alvarez was booked at the Orange County Jail on the felony charges of Shooting at an Inhabited Dwelling, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and Assault with a Firearm.
On 03/21/2024, Alvarez plead guilty to all three felony counts in Orange County Superior Court. Alvarez was sentenced to five years to be served in State Prison.
