The fallout from Councilmember David Benavides’ decision to honor hate group member Lupe Moreno and her supporters continues.  Last night the Ward 4 representative held a fundraiser in Washington Square and none of his Democratic colleagues showed up to offer their support.  Only Republican Councilmember Carlos Bustamante showed up.

The fundraiser was touted as being put on by Democratic electeds Loretta Sanchez, Lou Correa and Jose Solorio but none of them were in attendance.  It is being reported that there were roughly 50 people in attendance made up mostly of so-called “neighborhood leaders”.  Of course the “usual suspects” had a contingent there to show there support for the councilman that advances the causes of the “elite” over the blue collar residents.

Benavides Democratic colleagues have not officially pulled their endorsements of him as of yet but their no-show at his fundraiser is a good indication as to where he stands with them.  When Mayor Miguel Pulido and Councilmembers Sal Tinajero and Michele Martinez held fundraisers they were well attended by their fellow councilmembers.  Their growing disenchantment with Benavides will likely relegate him to a position of irrelevance on the city council.

If and when his colleagues pull their endorsement of his candidacy, we will be the first to let you know.

  1. “Benavides Democratic colleagues have not officially pulled their endorsements of him as of yet but their no-show at his fundraiser is a good indication as to where he stands with them”

Why havn’t they pulled them yet? Only insiders who read this blog know of the problems. The people who give money just see who’s on his list and write the checks. I think Lou and Lorreta like to play both sides of this and will not punish David for what he has done.

  2. It sounds like sour grapes to me, Mr. Mill. You seem to have a lot of misplaced anger and I am curious who you are really peeved at. Life’s too short; just enjoy what’s right in your world and the rest will take care of itself. Control is a fleeting thing and it will elude when you try too hard to hang on to it.

    1. booper,

If anyone is guilty of trying to hang on it is Benavides. He needs to say adios to the Minutemen and other haters in his life. This is going to really ruin his political aspirations. His chances of going to Sacramento to take over for Solorio are completely shot at this point.
