Driver rescued from the surf in Corona Del Mar

Early this morning at approximately 5:30 a.m., Newport Beach Police Department and Fire Department crews responded to a vehicle in the water at Corona del Mar Main Beach.

NBPD officers arrived first and successfully rescued an individual from the water, despite the challenging conditions caused by waves rolling the vehicle in the surf. Their quick actions ensured the safety of the patient, who was later transported to a local area hospital for evaluation and treatment.

NBFD units NB6, NE65, NM65, NE64, NT63, and NBLG provided medical care and scene support, while Public Works personnel worked to safely remove the vehicle from the surfline before it was later towed away.

The teamwork and determination of all responders were critical in overcoming the hazards posed by the early morning surf.

The cause of the vehicle ending up in the ocean is under investigation through NBPD.
