Why is Tan Nguyen running for the 47th Congressional District again?
The news broke a week ago that he was running. His entry into the race will make it even harder for Van Tran and Quang Pham to prevail over Anaheim Union High School Trustee Katherine Smith, in the now very crowded GOP primary.
Tran ally Tim Whitacre is close to Tan. Whitacre was able to convince Tan to appoint another of his friends, former SAUSD Trustee Rosie Avila, as Tan’s alternate on the OC GOP Central Committee. Whitacre may be the only one who can shed light on Tan’s renewed interest in Congress.
What makes this an even weirder story is that Tan is soon going to be on trial for sendin out a letter to Latino voters, during his campaign, essentially telling them not to vote. I have always wondered if Whitacre, who is very anti-immigrant, was involved in writing that letter.
Tan now lives in San Diego. Van Tran lives in West Sacramento. I am told that Pham is moving from Mission Viejo to Garden Grove. Smith already lives in the district, in Anaheim.
In related news a new blog has emerged called “Sink Sanchez.” However it does not yet refer to Tan.
Pedroza, You are not correct regarding Tim Whitacre having any association with Tan Nguyen. I know Tim personally and I know he was vigorously opposed to Tan Nguyen’s candidacy for the same reasons he’s opposed to Quang Pham’s.
I also know Tim has nothing to do with Rosie Avila as you so often like to lie about. He thinks she’s a nut job like a lot of other people do. If you had half a brain you’d know Avila was an Ex Oficio member of the OCGOP because of her own primary win. Actually, she still is until the upcoming election in June.

Whitacre ran the Avila campaign. I attended the fundraiser she had, at one of the Disney Hotels, and Tim was the MC!
As such he did not back Nguyen during the primary, but believe me, they were talking.
As soon as Nguyen won, he got sucked into Tim’s circle. In fact I ran into Tan at Tim’s office one night when Avila was there too!
Avila by the way LOST the primary to Nguyen. That is Tim asked Nguyen to appoint Avila to be his alternate on the Central Committee.

Tim did not run the Avila campaign. He mc’d an event and tried to help her for a month or two before he determined she was a waste of time and wouldn’t listen and he quit the campaign in disgust.
The only “talks” he ever had with Tan Nguyen was when he met him at his office to try to talk him out of running because of being recently registered and a carpetbagger. I know Tim has had many different GOTV meetings in his office and you may have been at one of those while Rosie Avila may have been there too but it was never just the 3 of them or the 4 of you as you try to make it sound. I know better than that and so do you.
Avila lost to Nguyen 4 years ago. Avila ran unopposed 2 years ago and as such is the Ex Oficio member for the OCGOP in the 47th until the next primary in June. She is listed on the OCGOP website under “About us” then “Committee” then “Ex Oficio” members.

After Avila lost to Tan, four years ago, he DID appoint her as his alternate to the Committee. Ask Scott Baugh. I forgot she ran again, but it didn’t matter as she got her tail kicked again, so who cares?
Only Tim and Tan know exactly what their relationship was. And neither one is talking about it…
