On Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at 9:22 PM, the Santa Ana Police Communications received a report of a traffic collision that occurred in the area of 505 E. Central Ave.

Responding officers located a male adult down in the parking lot suffering from injuries to his upper torso. Orange County Fire Authority treated and transported the victim to a local hospital.

The investigation revealed the victim was pursued and struck down by a vehicle. Detectives with the Homicide Section assumed the investigation and identified the suspect as Brian Reyes (31) of Santa Ana.

On January 3, 2024, at 11:10 AM, Reyes was arrested and the vehicle used in the crime was seized as evidence. A search warrant was served at Reyes’ residence where additional evidence was recovered.

On January 5, 2024, the victim, Jesus Hernandez (33) of Santa Ana, succumbed to his injuries. In concurrence with the OCDA’s Office, the suspect will be charged with PC 187(a) – Murder.
