The SAPD arrested a suspect after a traffic stop on gun and narcotics charges

SAPD patrol officers were conducting proactive enforcement in the area of Harbor Blvd. and Lilac Ave. when they conducted a traffic stop for vehicle code violations.

During their investigation the officers discovered that the driver had no valid driver’s license. Strike One!

The driver also had an unserialized AR-15 rifle and ammunition. Strike Two!

The suspect also had gang-related indicia and narcotics. Strike Three!

The suspect was arrested and booked at the Santa Ana Jail on multiple gun and narcotics-related charges.

Gang indicia are items or behaviors that can indicate a person’s gang affiliation, such as:

  • Clothing: Gang members often wear distinct styles of clothing.
  • Jewelry: Gang members may wear jewelry that represents their gang, such as a necklace, ring, or belt buckle.
  • Tattoos: Tattoos can indicate gang affiliation or geographic origin.
  • Hand signs: Gang members may use hand signs to communicate.
  • Graffiti: Gangs use graffiti to identify themselves and their territory.
  • Weapons: Gang members may use weapons such as knives, handguns, or automatic firearms.
  • Street names: Gang members are often known by their street names rather than their birth names.
  • Gang slang: Gang members may use a verbal code to communicate with each other.
  • Photographs: Gang members may keep photo albums of themselves and other members.
  • Music: Gang culture is often spread through music and entertainment.
