Labor Day weekend is here and if you are having a “staycation” how about heading to Downtown Santa Ana, this Saturday night, Sep. 1, for the Downtown Santa Ana Art Walk?

Come to the Art Walk to enjoy arts, crafts and live entertainment centrally located at: Artists Village – Second Street Promenade (2nd & Broadway) & the Santiago Arts Colony (Santa Ana Blvd. & Poinsettia).  There is always something new to see !  Downtown Inc. encourages artists of all medias to participate in this event.  For more information or to list your event, contact: claudia@downtown-inc.com, (714) 547 – 6100 ext. 205.  WWW.DOWNTOWN-SANTAANA.COM.

Highlights of this Saturday’s Labor Day Weekend Art Walk:

  • Remembering Carlos Alfonso DeRosa.  Carlos Alfonso DeRosa was one of the founders of the Santora Drum Circle, starting in 1998.  For years this was the entertainment on the promenade on the First Saturday of the month event. This week he died of a heart attack.  The drum circle led by Higgy Vasquez, son of Emigdio Vasquez, well known Santa Ana muralist/artist, will take place in his memory at the September 1st Art Walk.  Click here to RSVP on Facebook.
  • All Medium Show at Gallery 207. Congratulations to 14 amazing artists: Matthew Gualco, Michael Hemphill, Sue Katz, Barbara McIntyre, Jude Moralez, Michael Ochinero, Alicia Ogden, Tyler Park, Youngla Park, Rhonda Raulston, Ellen Seefeldt, Casey Sharpe, Cory Smith, and Anne Wally, who were selected by Juror, Mauro Rosa, a contemporary artist from San Paolo, Brazil.
  • Tony de los Reyas, Border Theory at the Grand Central Art Gallery. The Border Theory paintings combine two “orders” – abstract painting and the border that separates Mexico and the United States. Their relationship concerns components that are inherent in each: the demarcation of space through a conceptual framework, and its resulting material manifestation.
  • Constantin Hartenstein, ALIEN. Grand Central Art Center Artist in Residence, Constantin Hartenstein (b. 1982, Herzberg, former GDR), is an installation and video artist living and working in Berlin and New York.
  • Artists from the West Coast Drawing Group. Opening Reception: Sept 1st, 2012. 6pm to 10pm. The mission of West Coast Drawing is to provide inspiration, artistic support, and career advancement for outstanding artists working in drawing media in the San Diego area.
  • OC Film Fiesta.  The Crumbles feature film is heading south and opening the OC Film Fiesta in Santa Ana! Come out and celebrate opening night with special performances by bands The Moan, The Tequila Worms, and special guests at 6pm. Stay for the free screening of The Crumbles at 8pm. A Q&A with the cast and crew will follow the screening.

  1. L.A times had a nice piece about “The smallest gallery in the world” in the Santora today. (Hint), it was covered by Fiala and Vern’s Bohemian Rhapsody until recently unearthed by Newsong’s conspiracy for New World Order. Do not let New Santa Ana be co-opted.
