On 1/15/2024, a police detective responded to a local hospital to investigate a report of suspected elder abuse, according to the SAPD.

The victim, an 82-year-old female, was transported to the hospital by paramedics in an unconscious mental state. Medical staff discovered numerous wounds all over the back of her legs consistent with neglect.

On 1/25/2024, the victim unfortunately succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. Her son, Richard Towers (50), admitted to being the victim’s caretaker.

The Orange County District Attorney’s Office filed charges against Richard for PC 187-Murder, PC 368(b)(1)-Elder Abuse, and PC 12022.7(c)-Great Bodily Injury, and an arrest warrant has been issued.

At this time, Richard is absconding and SAPD Special Crimes Detectives are seeking the public’s assistance to locate him
