Gavin John Duffy, a 45-year-old man, was convicted of beating and torturing his girlfriend, in Santa Ana, on Monday.

Duffy attacked his girlfriend starting on April 13, 2018. He punched her 40 times, pulled her hair several times and even tried to suffocate her with a pillow three times, all the while preventing her from leaving.

Duffy was convicted of charges including corporal injury on a spouse or cohabitant, torture, and false imprisonment, all felonies. The jury also convicted him of sentencing enhancements for causing great bodily injury in a domestic violence incident.

Duffy is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 26.

The prosecutor, OCDA Deputy District Attorney Elise Levy, said that Duffy screamed at his girlfriend that she was cheating on him.

Depending on how long Duffy ends up in prison he may not have another girlfriend again.
