SANTA ANA, Calif. – For the first time in Santa Ana’s 153-year history, a woman will be sworn in as mayor next week, along with three City Councilmembers.
In the Nov. 8, 2022, General Municipal Election, Santa Ana voters elected Valerie Amezcua as mayor, Benjamin Vazquez to represent City Council Ward 2, Mayor Pro Tem Phil Bacerra to serve another term for City Council Ward 4, and Councilmember David Penaloza to again represent City Council Ward 6. The mayor serves a two-year term and councilmembers serve four-year terms.
Santa Ana voters also passed two ballot measures – Measure W, which restructures the City’s business license tax, and Measure X, which updates the City Charter with several changes, including a lifetime ban on running for mayor or City Council after a certain number of terms have been served.
The Orange County Registrar of Voters has certified the election results, which can be found at https://ocvote.gov/results.
On Tuesday, Dec. 13, the City Council will have a special meeting to certify the results, install the newly elected mayor and councilmembers, and elect a new mayor pro tem. The public is invited to attend. The meeting begins at 6 p.m. in the City Council Chambers, 22 Civic Center Plaza, at Santa Ana City Hall.

SANTA ANA, Calif. – Por primera vez en los 153 años de historia de Santa Ana, una mujer se tomará juramento como alcaldesa la próxima semana, junto con tres concejales de la ciudad.
En las Elecciones Municipales Generales del 8 de noviembre de 2022, los votantes de Santa Ana eligieron a Valerie Amezcua como la alcaldesa, a Benjamín Vázquez para representar al Distrito 2 del Concejo Municipal, al Vice Alcalde Phil Bacerra para servir otro mandato en el Distrito 4 del Concejo Municipal y al Concejal David Peñaloza para representar nuevamente al Distrito 6 del Concejo Municipal. El puesto de alcalde es por un término de dos años y los concejales sirven términos de cuatro años.
Los votantes de Santa Ana también aprobaron dos medidas electorales: la Medida W, que reestructura el impuesto a las licencias comerciales de la Ciudad, y la Medida X, que actualiza la Constitución de la Ciudad con varios cambios, incluyendo la prohibición de por vida de postularse para alcalde o concejal municipal después de una cierta cantidad de términos servidos.
