A friend of mine recently spoke to two members of the SAUSD School Board – and what they had to say about their colleague, Roman Reyna, was interesting.  Apparently Reyna is often late to School Board meetings and he even skips meetings.  They also said that he has lacked engagement and seemed disinterested.

Reyna’s supporters have been adamant that he is all about the kids, yet he allegedly has a poor record at the SAUSD School Board and he is quitting the board after only one term, in order to run for Ward 5 on the Santa Ana City Council.

We have previously looked at Reyna’s career.  This guy has spent his entire adult life working for the Santa Ana Parks and Rec Department, the Santa Ana Boys and Girls Club and the Santa Ana YMCA.  I guess if you need to hire a guy to throw a picnic or set up a volleyball game, then he’s your man.

Reyna’s opponent for Ward 5, Karina Onofre, has a college degree, which Reyna lacks, and is a professional property manager.  She has also run her own business, a publishing enterprise.  And she has attended every single candidates forum this year, while Reyna blew off the Santa Ana Chamber of Commerce forum, and the forty or so business owners who showed up for that event.

Reyna also is on record as supporting every single tax increase measure on the November ballot, and he also supported the red tape aspect of the bogus “Sunshine Ordinance” passed last week by the Benavides Council Cartel.

It is becoming increasingly clear that we need to vote for Onofre in Ward 5!

  1. This guy has missed most of the school board meetings! Ask anyone of his fellow school board members. He’s irresponsible, lacks genuine care for education, and does not connect with the adults in the school board. So, how will he do with our city? Is he just a stamp vote for his buddies? No brain here.

  2. Jose , you are not telling the truth. I am told by his colleagues he is the opposite of what you posted. Just ask them.

    1. LOL. Probably John Palacio, who is running Reyna’s campaign.

Besides Palacio can you tell us which school board members have endorsed Reyna?

  3. I find it QUITE INTERESTING how Pedroza did not support any candidate running for ward 5. Now he suddenly gives his FULL support to Onofre. Could Reyna really be that bad? That must be it!

“And Reyna will very likely win.

Reyna has the support of Santa Ana Mayor Miguel Pulido and Council Member David Benavides. I am pretty sure most of the Council will line up behind him. Reyna used to work at the Santa Ana Boys and Girls Club and he now works at the Santa Ana YMCA. He goes to church locally and has a lot of friends in the city. He will be a force to be reckoned with as a Council candidate.

Onofre, I think, would be better served running for the SAUSD School Board.” – Editor

You yourself clearly stated that Reyna is already going to win the election, that Onofre should spend her time on school board instead, so what’s up with that?

    1. Take a look at the date on that article. Reyna has since joined the doomed Benavides faux revolution. And in that time he has come out in support of every single tax increase measure on the November ballot.

Reyna harmed himself, as did Benavides, by turning on Mayor Pulido. And by allying with the leftist Amezcua rabble. He may yet win but he is now damaged goods.

As for Onofre she has now emerged as a viable candidate. She has a great shot at this seat as Reyna continues to wallow in his gaffes.

  5. Did you notice the OC REgister has it’s political info site up? I noticed that there are several Santa Ana candidates who now have a photo and platform to go along with their names on the ballot.

  6. Mr. Art:
Do these “new majority” team Sarmiento characters have any gas in the tank? I noticed over the weekend that both Reyna and Benavides are using OLD campaign signs they must have fished out of the trash after elections. They then put Stickers over the the past offices they ran for with the name of their now office being sought. Isn’t that a sign of a campaign with no juice? Don’t they say Money is the mothers milk of politics? If that’s true, I think these guys don’t even have enough cash for
    Simolac or Enfamil!

Reyna is the same guy then and now the only difference as you point out is that Reyna supports Benavides and not Pulido when you wrote in favor of Reyna you thought Reyna supported Pulido and Pulido supported Reyna.

So….in your opinion everything in support of Pulido is pure . Never mind conflicting histories.

  9. I have interacted with Roman on many occasions as a clssified employee. He is a very nice man.

But he is at best unqulified for his current office, let alone city council. He does not have basic command of English. His analytical skills are non-existent.

Roman needs to go to school. Not lead one.

  10. SAUSD EMPLOYEE,

You must be confusing Roman Reyna with another person who had the misfortune of meeting and interacting with you.

    1. With all due respect,he is my BOSSES BOSS. I am pretty sure I am talking about the right guy.

But he was one on April. Reyna flipped flopped.

Exactly my point . You flip flopped because Reyna those not support Pulido. When you believed Reyna supported Pulido he was your candidate too. Nothing about Reyna has changed except not supporting Pulido..

So, you like everything about Reyna except he does not support Pulido. UNDERSTOOD,!!!!!

    1. In the past few weeks I have gotten to know Reyna’s opponent, Karina Onofre. Honestly she is a superior candidate. She has my vote no matter how much you whine about Reyna.

  12. I agree with you Art,

Karina is the BEST candidate for City Council WARD 5.
    VOTE KARINA ONOFRE, CITY COUNCIL!!!!!

In the past few weeks I have gotten to know Reyna’s opponent, Karina Onofre. Honestly she is a superior candidate. She has my vote no matter how much you whine about Reyna.

I am not whining. JUST CLARIFYING YOU LIKE EVERYTHING ABOUT REYNA EXCEPT HE DOES NOT SUPPORT REYNA.

I understand your support for Onofre is entirely based on “Reyna does not support Pulido”

    Vote for Cecilia Iglesias,

Understand that your vote is based on you thinking Onofre is the best candidate . Do not confuse Pedroza’s reason with yours.

Pedroza believes Onofre is the best candidate based on that Reyna does not support Pulido. READ ABOVE PEDROZA SAYS JUST THAT.

Remember Pedroza supported Reyna and rejected Onofre prior to him knowing Reyna does not support Pulido.

    1. It is rather clear that there are many factors involved but yes, after Reyna turned on Pulido I decided to have a closer look. I have not liked what I have seen.

Your nagging on this is becoming tiresome. Why don’t you, or Reyna, or whoever supports him tell us why he is worth voting for? Your constant defensiveness is off-putting and I believe you are hurting Reyna, not helping him.

Tell us why we should vote for this guy. Better yet, explain why his own campaign website is unfinished and lacks information about his stance on the issues and his bio.

Reyna can’t even care enough to finish his own campaign website! Why should we support this guy?

  14. Yes, Karina is the Best Candidate for City Council based on her qualifications.

Roman has good qualifications that make him a good candidate too. I believe Roman needs to go back to his grassroots organizing if he wants to win this election.

I know Karina is working hard and if she keeps her momentum, she will WIN.

Cecilia “Ceci” Iglesias is also the Best candidate for Santa Ana School Board.

  15. I support Reyna because he is the best candidate. Should be good enough . It is your statement for everyone you support including Onofre in this case.

I agree your blog thread of personal attacks on non Pulido supporters is tiresome.

    1. That was a pretty lame response even by your standards. You’re his biggest supporter and that’s the best you can do to promote your guy Reyna? ROFLMAO!

      1. The editor responding with “ROFLMAO”? Dafuq? I thought you were an old person.

Lomeli, I’m glad finally someone who feels the same way!

  16. If you have a problem with my response then correct your self first. This blog is not about promoting candidates on their campaign issues.

This blog is about posting responses to personal attacks that have nothing to do with campaign issues. LYAO SOME MORE.

    1. Actually I just got a hold of the candidate’s campaign finance reports. Reyna hardly raised any money. No wonder he is using recycled four year old signs! Now that’s funny…

    1. You’ll see what I mean when I post Reyna’s pathetic campaign finance report. But you’ll have to wait until I finish cooking dinner for my family.

  17. Its not about who raises more money.. Its about what you have done and will do fo the community. I will vote for who has the community interest at heart.

I believe Cecilia “Ceci” Iglesias has those qualities for Schoool Board. That is why we need to vote for her and ensure she wins on NOV 6.

I know that Roman had those qualities years ago. I don’t know about now. He needs to go back to grass roots. Knocking on Doors and talking to people.

I know Karina is walking precincts and talking to people. That is why I believe she will WIN..

    1. I just had the opportunity to meet Ms Onofre yesterday, and she really blew me away. She’s strong willed, dedicated, focused, n will win ward 5 for sure.

  18. What is wrong with recycling signs? I appreciate Roman recycling rather than throwing them away and hurting the environment. Also its a very smart way to save money. Tell me editor, what is wrong with that?!

    1. It is very obvious that when he printed the signs, four years ago, he was already planning on moving on to the City Council. That is why the office he is running for is not noted on the signs.

It isn’t the recycling per se but rather the intentions. This guy is obviously hungry for power.

  19. The odds are that None of the council people have meaningful jobs Anthony! Except for the art of puppetry. Wait. Reyna works with youth community programs! As far as I am concerned that it is far more meaningful than peddling a bunch of consumer waste for some F@#$ in the head corporation that just wants to perpetuate status quo distractions for society. Re-analyze everything.

      1. Reyna workEd at Ymca n got laid off. What’s so great about helping kids if ur getting paid? That was his JOB, l don’t see him doing it for free now…

  20. Is he married?

Add a moustache and it’s completley clear why Roman works with young boys!

    What a creep.
