LOU CORREA WINS COVETED BACKING OF GIL CEDILLO

Pioneer of CA Drivers Licenses for Immigrants, Former Senator & Current L.A. Councilman Gil Cedillo Endorses Correa for Congress

SANTA ANA, CA— Bolstering his campaign to represent California’s 46th Congressional District seat, today former State Senator Lou Correa received a sought-after endorsement from former State Senator and current Los Angeles City Councilman Gil Cedillo.

Widely acknowledged as a pioneer in the effort to establish state drivers licenses for California’s undocumented individuals, Councilman Gil Cedillo’s endorsement carries significant weight among Latinos throughout California, and is particularly meaningful in the 46th Congressional District given its large Latino population.

In announcing his support of Correa for Congress, L.A. City Councilman Gil Cedillo stated:

“Washington needs more levelheaded and forward-thinking leaders. That’s why I’m thrilled to endorse my good friend and former colleague, former State Senator Lou Correa for Congress. He and I worked closely together on numerous public policy issues ranging from job creation and education, to economic development, healthcare, and common sense immigrant rights issues like supporting drivers licenses. I’ve seen Lou in action and I can affirm his unshakable commitment to improving the quality of life for the people he represents. He is the best choice for the 46th District.”

Former State Senator Lou Correa has been riding a major wave of momentum in recent weeks following his back-to-back endorsements from the following:

  • Congressional Hispanic Caucus Chair and Congresswoman Linda Sánchez
  • California’s Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson
  • California State Treasurer John Chiang
  • Building Our Leadership Diversity (BOLD) PAC

Correa served in the California State Senate, representing the 34th District, from 2006- 2014 and served the cities of Anaheim, Buena Park, Fullerton, Garden Grove, Santa Ana, Stanton and Westminster. Prior to the Senate, he served on the Orange County Board of Supervisors representing the 1st District. Before his time on the Board, Correa served in the California State Assembly representing the 69th District.
