City of Santa Ana
Santa Ana, CA – At last night’s Council meeting, the Santa Ana City Council passed a resolution of support for the development and growth of local worker cooperatives, becoming the first city in Orange County to formally support worker cooperatives. Worker cooperatives are businesses owned and operated by their workers.
These businesses provide local goods and services, stable jobs for residents, and offer new economic opportunities for lower income workers in the City. In addition, worker cooperatives enable workers in the community to gain important business and leadership skills, as well as assists individuals with significant barriers to employment. There is a new business in Santa Ana called Joseph + James. They are an in home men’s outfitter. Much like a lot of the online subscription models they bring clothing to the homes of their customers to try out without having to go to a retail store, the difference is that they provide a free stylist and they have all of our inventory available to tailor the experience as well as make it easy to find the pieces the customer really likes with out the hassle of having to send things back.

The MainPlace Mall took two more hits this week as Olive Garden announced that they are closing the restaurant they have had at that mall for over 25 years, and the clothing store Chico’s also closed down this week, according to the O.C. Register.
The good news is that the Olive Garden is staying in Santa Ana – they are literally moving across the street from the MainPlace Mall to the City Place, where they are taking over the vacancy that was left when McCormick & Schmick’s closed that location five years ago. Continue reading

The City of Santa Ana congratulates the Robert Escalante family as they celebrate the Golden Anniversary of their business by declaring June 4, 2016 “Custom Auto Service Day” in Santa Ana. In 1966, Robert Escalante’s mentor, William Lauer, founded Custom Auto Service as a full service restoration facility, catering to owners of Packards, Studebakers and other fine collectable automobiles. Today, Custom Auto Service stands as a hallmark of the American dream at its landmark location at Third & French in the historic core of Downtown Santa Ana. The business operates out of a historic former electric car garage built in 1919 during the “roaring twenties”. Do you remember the Little Sparrow cafe in DTSA? They were opened just a few years ago in 2013, by Bruce Marsh and his wife, Naseem Aflakian, who live in Floral Park. At the time Marsh did not appear to have much experience in the restaurant business.
Apparently Marsh and his wife have closed the Little Sparrow and are going to keep it but change it to something they are calling BlackBox, according to their website.
