Car thefts happen all the time in Orange County but one in particular has exploded in social media. Billie Joe Armstrong, the guitarist and lead signer of the band Green Day, announced over the weekend on his Instagram page and via Twitter that his classic 1962 Chevy II, which is also known as a Nova, was stolen in Costa Mesa.The stolen vehicle has a pearl exterior with a with a brown and cheetah-print interior, a black and yellow license plate, chrome rims and black leather steering wheel.

Armstrong wore that “This car is near and dear to all our hearts and has been in the GD (Green Day) family for over 30 years. Please send any sighting, tips or info to the Costa Mesa police. Incident # 22-002015, 22-002016. Please call 714-754-5280 please re-post, lets all help find this car!!”

The theft of the car was reported to the Costa Mesa Police at 9 a.m. on Saturday. Police investigators believe that the classic car was taken from where it was parked on Victoria Street east of the Santa Ana River sometime after Friday afternoon. It is still missing.
