Suicide attempt victim saved by police and firefighters in coastal OC

This morning, police officers responded to a call regarding an attempted suicide, according to the Newport Beach Police Department.

Upon arrival, they provided immediate medical aid until the Newport Beach Fire Department arrived and transported the individual to a local hospital.

During the incident, officers noticed an unknown substance inside the vehicle and took extra precautions by requesting a Hazmat team to investigate further.

The NBPD thanks CSI, Huntington Beach Fire Department, Huntington Beach Hazmat, and the Newport Beach Fire Department for the teamwork and dedication of their police officers.

The County of Orange has a 24-hour suicide prevention hotline available by dialing 988.

As part of the Suicide Prevention Services program, this toll-free, accredited hotline operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and is available to individuals of all ages who

1) are experiencing a behavioral health crisis and/or suicidal thoughts,

2) have attempted suicide and may be living with depression,

3) are concerned about a loved one possibly attempting suicide, and/or

4) are coping with the loss of a loved one who died by suicide.

Trained counselors provide immediate, confidential, over-the-phone/text/chat assistance and initiate active rescues when necessary. For callers who give their consent, counselors conduct follow-up calls to ensure continued safety and reduce the likelihood of attempts and emergency room visits. Callers who are not experiencing a crisis are triaged and offered access to WarmLine or other appropriate resources. The toll-free suicide prevention service is available to anyone in crisis or experiencing suicidal thoughts or to someone who is concerned about a loved one attempting suicide.
